Happy birthday Rachel!
Last week I (re)met a Norwegian girl I met at a plane to Australia five years ago. I send her a Facebook message and asked if she would like to drink coffee together some time. Well, we did and it was very nice! We barely knew each other but we chatted for the whole afternoon with a coffee and a chocolate muffin at the Espresso house in Olso. Sometimes all you need is an open mind-set and place to meet. On Wednesday she came over to my place with another friend for dinner, a roommate of mine also joined us. The next day I had to hand in my paper and at night my friend from Holland came over for the weekend!
On Saturday it was my 25th birthday. In the morning I was overwhelmed by an e-card sent by my mom, the three piglet tenors singing happy birthday. Hahaha! I also couldn't be more happy about the fact that the sun shone that day!! Me and my friend wandered through the city, chatted a lot and ate an amazing chocolate brownie birthday cake! At night we met with the Myths and Fairy Tales group, my Norwegian friends and my roommate at the Indian Kitchen near the HiOA. The Myths and Fairy Tale group made a cookbook for me, all of my fellow students put their recipes in it! I love the idea, thank you!! I aslo got a beer, chocolate and a framed picutre of a few fellow students! And of course everybody sang a birthday song (twice..). At a moment that night I called a fellow student Pheby (of friends) because she reminded me of her. Anyhow another guy from the group thought that he was like Chandler and I was definitely a Rachel.. according to him. Happy birthday Rachel! After my thank-you-all-for-being-here-blabla-pre-dinner speech we had the nicest Indian meal!! The owner himself came by to congratulate me with a glass of red wine from the house. After dinner we went to a bar, which was really nice! At the time me and my friend came back home she insisted I stayed in the kitchen. After a couple of minutes I was allowed to enter my room.. It was full of balloons!!! I love my birthday :).
The next day we were pretty wrecked, but we made it to the islands in the Oslo fjord! This time we went to Lyndøya. At night is was time to say good bye to my friend. Not for long within a week I will meet her in Reykjavik!!
This week we started with a drama assignment. We have to make our own version of the Hansel and Gretel tale. Tomorrow we will perform it in front of the teachers and our fellow students and then it's time to say good-bye... Contrasting feelings going through my mind. I would love to see my family and friend again, but on the other hand will miss the Myths and Fairy tale group. This chapter had to come to an end sometime. Saturday my plane will leave and I will have lots of great memories of those three months abroad. I have learned a lot about fairy tales and how these stories can help with the children’s identification process and more: how to a better performer and storyteller, how to make a puppet, about group dynamics, that privacy is not overrated, about the Scandinavian culture and habits, how I can dress proper on really cold days and that life is definitely like a fairy tale! Cheers!!
