Hei! Hvor er du?
Of course there was more on my schedule. With class we went to the Lillomarka forest in the north of Oslo. The teacher guided us through the woods and we told stories near the bonfire. Along the way we could pick fresh blueberries! We also had a couple of music classes where we learned to sing norwegian folksongs. The origin of Norwegain folkmusic does remind me of Irish or Celtic music my dad listened a lot when I was young. Nocturne of Secret Garden was one of the songs played in class that reminded me of my childhood. Never knew that it was actually the eurovision song Norway won with in 1995. Also lectures about trolls, hero's and story telling have been given. Unfortunately the level of English of the teachers is a little less then we used to. Sometimes it's hard to understand and tough to listen to for a couple of hours a day. On the other hand you feel sorry because their intentions are good. One teacher gave lectures about the Vikings. A lot of characters in fairy tales, like trolls, came from this period. Also myths and bible stories have links with the viking age because of the Christianization of Scandinavia. One lesson a teacher brought a couple of bibles with him. We had to read the gospel according to Matthew. We also had to read a pretty difficult piece, called 'The vala's prophecy'. Anyhow people still doing reseach about the meaning of this piece, so I red it and gave up thinking that I could understand where it's about in any other meaning than 'explaining the beginning and the end of the world according to the Viking society'. We also had pratical visits. Last week we went to the Folkemuseet and the Vikingskiphus. Today we went to a kindergarden in the north of Oslo. It was a small one with just fourteen kids and four pedagogs. We sang songs in different languages and ate together with the kids. These days I've heard a lot Norwegain and the language is pretty similair with Dutch and so quite understandable. I like the rhythm and sound of the language.
On the weekends I visited my neigbour from my childhood. She's planning to move to Norway for love! We chatted, drink lots of tea and made christmas cookies with Jingle bell songs on the radio! Just felt like home. Her boyfriend asked me if I would like to hold the shotgun. Wouw, that thing is heavy! By the by it's allowed to have guns for hunting in Norway. The next day they went hunting in the forrest. With fellow students I took lots of walks trough the city. Just to explore and when we were cold we went for a coffee. One night a Dutch girl and me went to Blå, a nice bar with live music. We ordered a way too expensive beer and had a great night! Last weekend another friend from Holland came over. We took the ferry to Hovedøya island in the Oslo fjord for a walk along the ruins and had a very nice and affordable portugese lunch in the city centre and ended the day with a view from the roof of the opera house. The next days we've visited the Vigelandsparken (this I actually remembered from my last visit in Oslo, 8 years ago) and Grünnelokka, an old nice neighbourhood with different markets and lots of coffeeplaces. One afternoon we played some cardgames in a pub called 'Colonel Mustard'. Afterall I fell in love with Oslo...
Tomorrow it will be three weeks ago I arrived in Oslo and in a month I will be back at home. At the moment I'm dealing with contrasting feelings. My home is where my roots, my family and closest friends are. I miss them but I don't want to go home yet. Speaking of which, there is another adventure waiting for me: Iceland! After the enchanting myths and fairytale course I will take off to Reykjavik and stay till the 20th of November!
